Privilege Manager for Unix

Capabilities and Benefits

Safe Root Partitioning

Privilege Manager lets you to partition system administration tasks without compromising the security of the root account. You can define an elaborate policy that determines whether and when any user requests are accepted or rejected. The feature ensures users  perform only the root actions for which they are responsible and authorized.

Indelible Audit Trail

Privilege Manager records all activities performed with elevated access, even down to the keystroke level, if required. This power to accurately log root and other account activities in a controlled environment provides a secure system administration policy with an indelible audit trail. It also ensures you’re aware of every root occurrence and all administrative activity.

Privilege Manager compares all commands to be executed on a target system with a policy stored on a master machine. If commands have been previously approved by the administrator  they are logged on the master machine and executed on the target system. All output from the target system is then logged and available for compliance and security purposes.

Encryption, Authentication, and Program Controls

Privilege Manager for Unix encrypts its own network traffic to prevent unauthorized access to highly sensitive information. Authentication is handled through challenge and response password schemes that can require one or more passwords, as well as multi-factor authentication. Privilege Manager  further enhances security by restricting unauthorized or destructive programs and data maintained, stored, and/or executed on Unix systems. Only approved programs and data are allowed on Unix systems enabled with Privilege Manager.

Privilege Manager also includes several program controls to prevent Trojan Horse programs. Checksum comparisons verify the integrity of programs to be run on the target system to prevent malicious or damaging attacks.

Central Management of Heterogeneous Networks

Privilege Manager for Unix provides full functionality for heterogeneous organizations. Configuration and management is delivered through a single, uniform manager interface. The product’s architecture is fully fault-tolerant with no single point of failure. Multiple master hosts may be specified for failover and load-balancing when required.

Robust Multi-platform Support

Privilege Manager for Unix supports a wide range of Unix and Linux platforms including IBM AIX,HP-UX, Sun, SuSE Linux, RedHat Linux, Tru64, and SGI. For a complete list of supported platforms please visit the Privilege Manager Supported Platforms page.
